How to Report Identity Theft
Identity theft occurs when someone steals your personal information through a security breach or other means and uses it to open new accounts or initiate transactions in your name. If you believe you are a victim of identity theft, report it immediately and take the following steps:
1. Review Your Accounts and statements to identify any fraudulent or unauthorized activity.

2. Contact the major credit bureaus. You can request that the three main credit bureaus place a fraud alert on your credit file. This alert requires creditors to verify your identity before opening any new accounts in your name or changing any of your existing accounts.

3. Go to for a personalized recovery and action plan. is the federal government’s one-stop resource to help you report and recover from identity theft. Their website provides resources and worksheets to help resolve identity theft. Call 1-877-ID THEFT (1-877-438-4338) or submit a complaint online through their website.

4. Contact us if you believe that any of your BFSFCU accounts, cards, or information has been impacted.
